David joined Encompass Marine in October 2019, bringing over 20 years’ experience of shipping operation and management as well as a passion to provide ship owners with safe, efficient, commercially effective solutions to maintain and improve their asset’s condition, operational and environmental performance, reliability and value. Having served at sea over 14 years on VLCC/Tankers, Ro-Ro and MOD Strategic Sealift vessels to senior engineer level, David relished the challenging environment of dry-dock, maintenance and repair periods. That enthusiasm for ship repair and understanding of asset integrity, coupled with experience of operational and technical management of Oil and LPG Gas Tankers with Northern Marine, Container vessels with CMA CGM, UK MOD vessels, Navy Polar Survey Vessel, Passenger vessel and a vintage super yacht with Andrew Weir, gives Encompass Marine and our high quality Principals a strong footing to assist owners and managers what ever the issue.

Encompass Marine was established by Peter Smith and Kevin Jarvis in 2000 to provide marketing and sales services to the worldwide ship repair industry, enabling clients in UK, Eire and Switzerland to have quality, cost effective repair options globally for their vessels.

Our worldwide network of strategically located shipyards and associated marine service companies has grown steadily since launch. It is being continually developed to include quality service providers, so that we can offer the necessary options tailored to our clients’ requirements in each geographical area, utilising wherever possible the latest technology and innovations in the industry.

Representing Keppel significantly strengthened our positioning in the market and we also work very closely with their group companies Arab Heavy Industries, Keppel Philippines Marine as well as N-KOM (Nakilat-Keppel Offshore & Marine).  Singapore is a fantastic hub for ship repair and we have handled all vessel types and sizes at Keppel, with notable works including several dockings for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) which lead on to a partnership with UK-based Cammell Laird for further RFA repairs in Singapore and worldwide.

We consider each enquiry as a partnership with our clients and we give them open and honest appraisals of their requirements and the options available to them. Having worked in a variety of positions ourselves with both ship yards, ship owners and managers, we have a good understanding of their needs. Our business is fundamentally one of relationships, and trust in these relationships is key to what is a very personal business. Developing close ties with our principals is vital to ensure we understand their strengths, which in turn allows us to ensure the right option is provided to meet our clients’ needs.

With almost all communications now via email, everyone expects to receive immediate responses to questions and enquiries which increases demands on all parties. However, it is all too easy for business to become impersonal and digitally based and we strongly believe that the personal touch, whether face to face contact or via telephone, is still valued whilst also utilising all available technology to expedite works.

Now well in to our second decade of business, we continue to grow and develop, adapting to the needs of the industry whilst offering the same high quality service. The shipping industry has and always will be a demanding market, but the nature of those demands change and whatever the global economic situation our aim is to ensure that our clients have the best and most cost effective service.
